How I’m Staying Rooted When Life Feels Busy
If there’s one thing I’m constantly reminding myself of, it’s this: Life comes in seasons.
Some seasons are slow and spacious. Others are full, stretching us in ways we didn’t expect. I've learned that neither season lasts forever—and that's actually a really comforting thought.
When life gets busy, I try to remember that the slower seasons aren't meant to be wasted. They're where we rest, recharge, build healthy rhythms, and store up the energy we'll need for the seasons that require a little more from us.
And when those busy seasons arrive, I remind myself that it's okay if I don't have the capacity for everything. It's okay to say no.
Not because you don't care.
Not because you'll never do those things again.
But because you simply don't have the margin in this season.
That "no" isn't forever. It's just for now.
One of the biggest lessons I've learned is that busy seasons become much more manageable when I choose my priorities ahead of time. Instead of trying to do everything well, I focus on the things that keep me grounded.
Here are the four things I always come back to.Make it stand out
Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.
1. Faith Comes First
More than anything else, my faith keeps me rooted.
No matter how full my calendar gets, I try to spend time in God's Word every morning. Even if it's just a few quiet moments, opening my Bible, journaling, and praying reminds me what's actually important before the demands of the day start pulling at my attention.
Going to church each week and praying with my husband, family, and friends continually brings me back to what matters most.
When my heart is centered first, everything else feels a little lighter.
2. Family & Friends Keep Me Grounded
Make it stand out
Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.
The people I love are one of God's greatest gifts.
During busy seasons, I may not get to spend as much time with them as I'd like. Sometimes work deadlines or commitments simply make that impossible.
But they're still the people who make me laugh, remind me who I am, offer a safe place to cry when I need it, and create little pockets of rest in the middle of chaos.
Even a quick coffee, a phone call, dinner with family, or a walk with a friend can completely change my perspective.
I've learned that staying connected is just as important as staying productive.
3. Movement Is Non-Negotiable
Make it stand out
Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference. If I'm being honest, working out is usually the first thing I feel like skipping when life gets busy.
Ironically, it's often the thing I need the most.
Movement helps both my physical and mental health. Whether it's a Pilates class with friends, a long walk outside, or simply taking 45–60 minutes to move, stretch, and breathe, I always leave feeling more like myself than when I walked in.
I've realized movement isn't taking time away from my day—it's helping me show up better for it.
4. Learning to Live From a Place of Rest
This is the lesson I'm still learning every day. Rest isn't only something we experience after life slows down. It's a posture. I want to approach even my busiest seasons from a place of peace instead of pressure. That means taking one day at a time, one step at a time.
Practically, this looks like starting my day with a brain dump. I write down everything that's on my mind and then prioritize what actually needs my attention today. If something isn't time-sensitive, I intentionally move it to another day instead of carrying the mental weight of it. I also rely on project management tools, my digital calendar, and a written planner to keep track of reminders and tasks. Having trusted systems in place allows me to take those thoughts off my mind in the moment, be fully present with what's in front of me, and trust that I won't forget what's next.
Being present has become one of the greatest gifts I can give myself. When I stop rushing mentally into tomorrow, I realize today is actually enough.
Busy Doesn't Last Forever
If you're in a busy season right now, I hope you know this: You don't have to do everything. You don't have to say yes to every opportunity. You don't have to feel guilty for protecting your capacity.
Give yourself permission to focus on what matters most in this season.
The slower days will come again. And when they do, you'll appreciate them even more because you'll remember what it felt like to need them. Until then, keep choosing what keeps you rooted.
For me, that's faith, the people I love, movement, and learning to live from a place of rest. Those four things have carried me through every busy season so far—and I have a feeling they'll carry me through many more.
